Cosmetic - Aesthetic Dentistry |
Cosmetic / Aesthetic Dentistry involves analyzing colour or silhouette of individual teeth and the spatial relationship of the teeth and the lips and
face. Cosmetics refers to a result with a uniform appearance (like makeup) whereas aesthetics refers to features that typifies or blends and not
detracting from the overall appearance.
Where the teeth require gross bodily movement spatially then a referral to an Orthodontist will be required. Teeth can be resurfaced polished and bleached to improve their appearance. Prosthodontists are trained in putting together a plan that will improve the overall appearance of the smile whether it be a made-up look ( cosmetic) or so that restorative procedures complement rather than detract from the patients aesthetics.
